Orto-Tokoy Hydropower Plant Construction Nears Completion in Kyrgyzstan

Construction of the Orto-Tokoy Hydropower Plant is advancing in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. Work on the main building of the facility is 90 percent complete. Crews are currently engaged in the continuous installation of hydraulic units and the development of associated infrastructure at the site. The commissioning of the facility is scheduled for mid-2026.

Water will be supplied to the hydro turbines through a dedicated tunnel. Construction and installation activities on this underground section have also surpassed the 90 percent completion mark. Contractors have transitioned to equipment assembly and are preparing for the final phase of the water conduit construction.

The Orto-Tokoy hydropower project involves the operational launch of three generators. The first generator is fully assembled, while components for the second and third units have been delivered to the machinery yard – they are currently undergoing preparation for installation and alignment. Simultaneously, workers are assembling control panels and initiating pre-commissioning procedures for the electrical systems.

The designed capacity of the Orto-Tokoy Hydropower Plant is 21 megawatts. Once operational, the station will be capable of generating approximately 75 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
