Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on the way to automation of Syrdarya water metering
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed on the development of a technical specification for automating the water metering of the Syrdarya River, the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.
Earlier, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan identified 10 sites in the Syrdarya River basin where automated water metering systems will be installed. Five of them are located on the territory of Kazakhstan, and five more, respectively, on the territory of Uzbekistan.
Today, the parties are negotiating with international financial organizations to finance the project. The general terms of reference for the project are being developed by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
“It should be noted that only the first 10 sites have been identified. In general, we plan to automate all the main hydro posts and ensure full transparency of water metering. We are actively promoting this issue in negotiations with our Kyrgyz and Tajik colleagues,” Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Aldamzharov said.
