Tasotkelskoye and Teris-Aschybulakskoye reservoirs will be filled to 100%
By April 2025, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan plans to fill the Tasotkel and Teris-Ashybulak reservoirs in the Zhambyl region by 100%. A staff meeting was held at the ministry, where preparations for spring floods and the irrigation period next year were discussed, the press service of the department reports.
As of today, the Tasotkel reservoir is filled by 70.5%, which is about 353 million cubic meters of water. 36 million cubic meters of water have been collected in the Teris-Ashybulak reservoir.
The Shardara reservoir in the Turkestan region is also actively accumulating water. Over the past month, 702 million cubic meters of water have arrived in it. Now the reservoir is 41% full. By spring, the Ministry intends to accumulate more than 5 billion cubic meters of water in it.
Kapchagai reservoir in Almaty region is almost 90% full. This is approximately 16.6 billion cubic meters of water. In November-December of this year, 120 million cubic meters of water were received there.
“The Ministry is actively negotiating with neighboring countries to ensure stable water supply in the southern regions during the irrigation period next year. At the meeting of the Kazakh-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Council in Bishkek last week, we reached a number of important agreements. Thanks to water diplomacy, during the irrigation period of this year, our farmers did not experience a shortage of water,” said Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
