Kazakhstan is discussing with China the separation of transboundary rivers

Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Kazakhstan Zhang Xiao. The parties discussed topical issues of bilateral water cooperation, the press service of the Ministry reports.

Among the priority topics of the negotiations are the issues of water allocation of transboundary rivers. For this purpose, there is a special working group of experts from the Republic of Kazakhstan and the PRC. The purpose of the negotiations is to provide water for the Ile-Balkhash basin, the development of fisheries and tourism.

In the near future, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan intends to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Water Resources of the PRC.

In addition, the parties discussed the joint modernization and automation of Kazakhstan’s water infrastructure, the production and implementation of water-saving technologies, as well as professional development of Kazakhstani specialists in China.

“An agreement has been reached with Power China on the passage of advanced training courses in China by Kazakhstani water specialists. I think the initiatives discussed today will give a new impetus to bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and China,” said Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.

The Ambassador, in turn, stressed that the Chinese side takes water cooperation with Kazakhstan very seriously and intends to continue the exchange of experience and technologies.
