A reconstructed hydroelectric unit has been put into operation at the Uch-Kurgan HPP

Hydroelectric unit No. 4 was put into operation at the Uch-Kurgan HPP in Kyrgyzstan after reconstruction. The solemn event on its launch took place on December 30, the press service of JSC “Electric Stations” reports.

The reconstruction was aimed at increasing the capacity and efficiency of the station. As a result of the upgrade of hydroelectric unit No. 4, the capacity of the Uch-Kurgan HPP increased by 20%.

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev took part in the launch of the hydroelectric unit in an online format. The event was also attended by the Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev, General Director of OJSC “Electric Stations” Sultan Sadyrakunov and other officials.

Reconstruction of hydroelectric unit No. 4 began in March 2024. The modernization works were carried out by CNEEC. In 2025, it is planned to start the reconstruction of the hydroelectric unit No.3. After completion of all stages, the service life of the hydroelectric power plant will increase by 25-30 years.

The Uch-Kurgan HPP, built in 1962, is the first hydroelectric power station in the Naryn region. Its reservoir is located in the city of Shamaldy-Sai, Jalal-Abad region and has a total volume of 52.5 million m3. Before the reconstruction, the capacity of the HPP was 180 MW, provided by four hydroelectric units with a capacity of 45 MW each. The full-scale reconstruction of the station is being carried out for the first time in more than 60 years of operation.
