The construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 was estimated at $3.6 billion.
The Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic has completed a feasibility study on the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 project. This was announced by the Minister of Economy and Commerce Daniyar Amangeldiev on December 11, 2024 at a meeting with journalists.
The estimated cost of the project, according to the minister, will be $3.6 billion.
According to him, investment proposals have already been received.
“First of all, the support of the World Bank in the form of an interest-free credit line in the amount of $ 500 million has already been invested at the first stage. Negotiations were also held with the Republic of Uzbekistan, which confirmed its bid for $500 million. In addition, the participation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in this project is expected — they should also apply in a few days,” the minister said.
The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) recently also announced its plans to allocate $500 million for the construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1.
According to the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, the height of the dam of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 will be 256 meters. It is assumed that the hydroelectric power station with an installed capacity of 1,860 megawatts will produce about 5.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
