EDB is ready to get involved in the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 construction project

It is planned to allocate $500 million for the construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 in Kyrgyzstan through the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). This was announced by the Chairman of the Management Board of the bank Nikolay Podguzov at a press conference in Kazakhstan.

“We are working with the World Bank on this project. We are ready to allocate money for technical assistance on feasibility studies. We are also ready to allocate funds in the amount of up to $ 500 million for the implementation of the project,” he said.

Nikolay Podguzov noted that while the cost of the project is unknown.

“But I think its cost will be from three to four billion US dollars,” he added.

Recall that the Kambar-Ata HPP—1 is a hydroelectric power plant under construction in Kyrgyzstan on the Naryn River in the Toktogul district of Jalal-Abad region, part of the Naryn-Syrdarya cascade of the HPP, being its upper stage. Kambar-Ata HPP-1 is located 14 kilometers above the Kambar-Ata HPP-2. After completion of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 will become one of the largest hydroelectric power stations in Central Asia. The construction of the station is being carried out by Electric Stations OJSC, the first hydroelectric unit is planned to be commissioned in 2028.
