Qatar’s Nebras Power discusses the construction of a hydroelectric power station in Kazakhstan
The Qatari company Nebras Power is negotiating with Kazakhstan on the construction of a large hydroelectric power station in the east of the country, the press service of the national holding Samruk-Kazyna reported.
“The capacity of the HPP will be up to 350 MW. The project will provide new generating capacities, as well as act as a counter—regulator of the existing Shulba HPP,” the report says.
Recall that six months ago it was reported that Samruk-Energo was developing a preliminary feasibility study of the project (Pre-TEO), this work was planned to be completed by September 2024. Within the framework of the document, it was also supposed to determine the preliminary cost of the project.
In October, according to information published by the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, it became known that the cost of building the Semipalatinsk hydroelectric power station (this is what the alleged counterregulator of the current Shulba hydroelectric power station is now called) on the Irtysh River will amount to 420 billion tenge. It is planned to launch the HPP in 2029. It is planned to take 420 billion tenge necessary for the construction from extra-budgetary sources, including the National Fund and the UAPF.
In addition, Russia can also take part in the construction of the Semipalatinsk HPP, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliyev reported in July.
