Kambar-Ata-1: preparations for the construction of the HPP are in full swing
The Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev held a meeting with the head of the World Bank Group representative office Hugh Riddel, during which the progress of the ambitious Kambar-Ata HPP-1 construction project was discussed. The press service of the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that the parties paid attention to the current state of the project, analyzed the work done and outlined further steps.
Taalaibek Ibrayev expressed gratitude to the World Bank for the support provided to the energy sector of Kyrgyzstan. He stressed that thanks to the 18.6 million US dollars allocated by the bank, the feasibility study of the project is being updated.
The Minister also informed Hugh Riddel about the progress of the preparatory work. These include the construction of roads, the concreting of a tunnel, the construction of a bridge, the creation of a work camp and the laying of power lines. He added that environmentalists and sociologists are working at the facility, and a public opinion poll is being conducted on the construction of a hydroelectric power station.
Significant results have already been achieved as part of the preparatory work. The road readiness from the TT-2 exit portal to Slot No. 2 is 82%, and concreting is 44% complete. 2.5 kilometers of pavement have been laid on the road to the hydroelectric power station, concreting has been completed by 22.32%. The transport tunnel TT-2 with a length of 126 meters is fully ready. 6,794 kilometers (37.7%) have already been laid along the 110-kilovolt overhead transmission line with a length of 18 kilometers, 25 supports and 732 insulators have been installed, two transformers have been delivered. Work is underway to build a bridge across the Naryn River, temporarily suspended due to weather conditions. During the construction of the work campus, the foundations of the ATK building, canteen and dormitory are 100% ready.
During the meeting, Ibrayev voiced a number of proposals to the representative of the World Bank:
- creation of jobs for the local population after completion of construction;
- allocation of 1% of the generated electricity as support for local residents;
- assistance to low-income families;
- education and training of about 1000 power engineering students before completion of construction;
- providing local residents with drinking water;
- construction of a 110 kV backup power transmission line between Toktogul district and Kambar-Ata-2 HPP.
The participants of the meeting discussed pressing issues requiring prompt solutions and agreed on further actions aimed at the early start of major construction work at the Kambar-Ata HPP-1. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation for the successful implementation of this strategically important project.
