The new Kambar-Ata HPP-1 will become more powerful than the Toktogul HPP

A delegation of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh from the Mekenchil parliamentary group visited the site of the future grandiose construction of the Kambar-Ata 1 hydroelectric power station as part of the visiting session. Parliamentarians were presented with the key parameters of the project: the installed capacity of the new HPP will reach 1,860 megawatts. Annual electricity generation is projected at an impressive 5.6 billion kilowatt-hours. These figures indicate that Kambar-Ata 1 will significantly surpass the current Toktogul HPP in its production capabilities, which today is the basis of the Kyrgyz energy system.

According to preliminary calculations, to ensure such a capacity, a 256–meter-high dam will be erected – one of the highest in the world for such structures. The accumulated volume of water in the reservoir will exceed 5.4 billion cubic meters.

During the working trip, the deputies also got acquainted with the current activities of the already functioning Kambar-Ata 2 HPP. Since the beginning of the year, this station has contributed to the energy balance of the country, generating almost 293 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. At the time of the visit, there was a water reserve of about 21 million cubic meters in its reservoir.

In addition to the facilities on the Naryn River, the program of the off-site meeting included a visit to the production sites of Electric Stations OJSC in the city of Kara-Kul. This gave the deputies an opportunity to get a comprehensive view of the state of affairs in the energy sector and discuss ways to further modernize and develop it. Parliamentarians expressed a common opinion on the need for accelerated development of the hydropower industry in Kyrgyzstan.
