Construction of a water intake facility for the Papan hydroelectric power station in the Osh region has begun in Kyrgyzstan. This project is part of a set of measures of the Ministry of Energy aimed at increasing production and overcoming the shortage of electricity in the country, the press service of the department reports.

The construction of the Papanskaya HPP is carried out on the basis of a public-private partnership. The project involves JSC “Chakan HPP” from the Kyrgyz side and LLC “Joint Kyrgyz-Chinese Society for the Construction of Hydropower”.

At the moment, active preparatory work is underway at the construction site located at the water intake facility of the Papan reservoir. Specialists have already completed the clearance of the territory intended for the placement of the water intake and have begun excavation work. In particular, the excavation is being developed, which is necessary for the subsequent construction of the main concrete structures of the station.

In parallel with the construction work, the project partners are engaged in updating the accompanying infrastructure. Within the framework of the current agreement, the Kyrgyz-Chinese company is carrying out cosmetic repairs of the administrative building related to the Papan reservoir.

The new hydroelectric power station will be built in the lower reaches of the Papan reservoir in the Kara-Sui district. The project capacity of the facility will be 27 MW. It will be provided with three hydroelectric units of 9 MW each. It is expected that the average annual electricity generation at the Papanskaya HPP will reach 113 million kWh.
