Financing of the Rogun Dam: authorities are looking for new solutions

An extraordinary meeting of the company’s shareholders was held in Dushanbe under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda, who heads the Supervisory Board of JSC Rogun Dam. According to NIAT “Khovar” with reference to the secretariat of the Supervisory Board, the event was attended by members of the Board, representatives of ministries and departments, heads of audit commissions, shareholders and management of the company.

The central topics of discussion were the financing of a strategically important project for the country – the Rogun hydroelectric power station. The shareholders considered two key issues: the allocation of funds received from the sale of electricity generated by Dams for the program of distribution of interests, as well as the procedure for the distribution of income from the sale of electricity both in the domestic and foreign markets.

Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda stressed that the construction of the Rogun Dam is proceeding at an accelerated pace. Over the past two years alone, over 9 billion somoni have been allocated from the state budget for these purposes, which made it possible to complete more than half of the construction work. The Government of Tajikistan is taking all necessary measures to ensure timely financing of the project using various sources.

At the moment, agreements have been signed on financing the power plant facilities with six international organizations. In addition, active cooperation with a number of international financial institutions and development partners continues to attract concessional financing.

During the meeting, General Director of JSC “Rogun Dam” Khairullo Safarzoda and Director of the Group for the Implementation of Projects for the Construction of Energy Facilities Pulod Muhiddinien made presentations. Following the discussion of the agenda items, the shareholders made appropriate decisions, the details of which were not disclosed.
