Tupalanga Energy: new Zarchob-3 HPP launched in Uzbekistan
The successful launch of the new Zarchob-3 hydroelectric power station located on the Tupalang River took place in Uzbekistan. According to the Dongfang Electric Corporation, the station has already been connected to the country’s unified energy system and has started generating electricity.
The capacity of the new power facility is 16 MW, and the annual electricity production is projected to reach 70 million kWh. The construction was carried out in a short time: the foundation stone of the HPP was laid in November 2023, and in less than a year the station was put into operation, which demonstrates the high dynamics of the industry.
Zarchob-3 is part of a cascade of hydroelectric power plants on the Tupalang River. Earlier, in December 2020 and September 2021, the stations “Zarchob-1” with a capacity of 37 MW and “Zarchob-2” with a capacity of 38 MW, respectively, were commissioned. The existing facilities provide “green” energy to about 48 thousand households, and the launch of the third station will significantly increase this figure.
The project is being implemented within the framework of a large-scale state program for the development of small hydropower, initiated by presidential decree in 2017. To attract private investment in the sector, the Government of Uzbekistan has created favorable conditions, including the provision of land plots for lease for 20 years and guarantees for the purchase of all electricity produced at fixed tariffs.
