The dam on the Kargyba River will be reconstructed by next spring

In the Aksuat district of the Abai region, work has resumed on the reconstruction of the dam water intake on the Kargyba River. The implementation of the project was suspended in 2021 due to shortcomings made during its development, according to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

To resume the construction of the dam water intake in 2023, the design and estimate documentation was adjusted. Currently, construction and installation work is underway at the facility, which is planned to be fully completed by the end of April next year.

At the moment, the facility has already completed the dismantling and installation of three valves with screw lifts. Reinforcement frames are fully mounted on the overflow part of the dam, and the laying of the concrete mixture is 90% complete. At the same time, the upper stream is being cleaned of silt deposits and the construction of a mating dam is underway. Work is also underway on the water intake of the Kazakhstan main canal.

The implementation of the project is aimed at solving several tasks: improving water intake into the Zhana–Togan canal, preventing the ingress of sediments and the death of fish in the Kargyba River. According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the repair of the Kazakhstan main canal and its facilities will optimize the distribution of water, reduce its losses and ensure more economical use.
