The construction of the Qosh-Tepa canal in northern Afghanistan is nearing completion

A high-ranking delegation from Afghanistan headed by the head of the emirate’s companies Ahmad Jan Bilal and the head of the National Development Company Abdul Rahman Attash visited the northern provinces of the country. The purpose of the trip was to inspect and evaluate the implementation of a major national project – the Qosh-Tepa irrigation canal. During the visit, the management stressed the need for standardization and acceleration of the workflow, TOLOnews reports.

The representative of the National Development Company of Afghanistan, Nabiullah Arghandival, explained that the trip was organized to study in detail the recent progress in construction and provide the necessary instructions to local officials in order to improve the quality and scope of work. According to him, the construction of a large irrigation canal Qosh-Tepa is being carried out simultaneously at several sites.

Arghandival added that the excavation work in the second phase of the project has now been completed by 95%. Along the canal route, 15 bridges and hydraulic structures for water control are being actively built. He also noted that the readiness of the canal spillways is approximately 85%.

“All aspects of this project – from design to implementation and supervision – are carried out by Afghan engineers,” said a company representative. “For the first time in the history of Afghanistan, a project of this scale is being fully implemented by Afghan specialists.”

Meanwhile, some citizens working at this large national water facility expressed satisfaction with the emergence of jobs. They believe that the project contributes to the improvement of the economic situation in the country. One of the workers, Mustafa, noted: “We are very pleased that the government is creating jobs, allowing us to earn halal income for our families.” Another worker, Mohammad Sakhi, added: “We are glad that big projects are being implemented in the country. We hope to increase the volume of work and expand employment opportunities for other citizens.”

Qosh-Tepa Canal is considered one of the largest infrastructure and development projects in Afghanistan. Originating in the Amu Darya River, after completion of construction it will provide irrigation of thousands of hectares of agricultural land in the provinces of Balkh, Jauzjan and Faryab.
