Construction of Papan Hydropower Plant Advances in Kyrgyzstan

Construction of the Papan Hydropower Plant is advancing in Kyrgyzstan. The project is being implemented by Chakan GES, a company that secured the construction site through a tender organized by the state Green Energy Fund. Preparatory operations are currently underway at the site, with contractors laying temporary access roads to the future location of the power plant building. The total length of these new routes will exceed nine kilometers. Concurrently, builders are finalizing the setup of a residential camp for the facility personnel.

Technical preparations are progressing across multiple areas. Engineers are designing a 110-kilovolt overhead power transmission line to distribute the generated electricity into the national grid, while land allocation for the transmission line towers is being processed. The implementing company is gathering the necessary permit documentation, including architectural and urban planning approvals. A distinct phase of the project – securing authorization for drilling and blasting operations – is necessary to excavate a diversion tunnel through the mountainous rock.

The development of the Papan Hydropower Plant aligns with the national strategy to expand renewable energy sources. A preliminary environmental impact assessment for the facility has already been completed. Once commissioned, the new hydroelectric plant will increase the overall generating capacity of the country and stabilize the electricity supply to the southern regions of the republic.
