Four cascades of HPPs for $200 mln will be built on the Chatkal River.
The construction boom continues in Kyrgyzstan, including in the energy sector. One of the directions was the development of small hydropower. This was announced by the head of the department for attracting and preparing PPP projects, Karatai Dzhangeldiev, on the radio.
He noted that last week an agreement was signed on the construction of small cascades of hydroelectric power stations on the Chatkal River.
“These are four cascades of hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of about 160 megawatts. The total investment is about $ 200 million,” said Zhangeldiev.
According to him, the country is also implementing projects to create solar and wind power plants.
“The main goal of these projects is to increase the energy potential of our state. According to the legislation, investors finance the construction of power plants, and the state undertakes to buy back the electricity generated by them. This is a kind of guarantee for the private sector that they will be able to sell the electricity produced,” he said.
Zhangeldiyev also recalled that work is underway to develop transport infrastructure, in particular the construction of roads.
“Kyrgyzstan is at the crossroads of trade routes, and cross-border transport corridors are an aspect in the development of the state. In January of this year, the first PPP agreement was signed in the field of road construction — on the project of a bypass road in the city of Uzgen with a length of 14 km. The cost of the agreement was $29 million,” he added.
