The future cascade of hydroelectric power stations on the Uba River has acquired strategic importance
The cascade of hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) on the Uba River in the East Kazakhstan region is included in the list of strategically important water facilities, the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.
“By a government decree, a cascade of hydroelectric power plants being prepared for construction on the Uba River in the East Kazakhstan region is included in the list of water facilities of special strategic importance,” the report says.
The ministry’s message indicates that the construction of a cascade of hydroelectric power stations will ensure reliable control of flood waters to reduce flood risks and protect settlements in the region.
It is also noted that a complex of reservoirs with a total capacity of up to 500 million cubic meters will be formed for the water supply of citizens and industrial facilities. According to the ministry, conditions will be created for watering over 3 thousand hectares of agricultural land and generating additional volumes of environmentally friendly electricity.
“The project for the construction of a cascade of hydroelectric power stations on the Uba River provides for significant private investments. Hydroelectric power stations will generate additional volumes of electricity from renewable sources, which corresponds to the national strategy for the development of a green economy,” said Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
