A small hydroelectric power station “Chok-Tal” will be built near Issyk-Kul
A solemn ceremony of laying a capsule at the construction site of the small Chok-Tal hydroelectric power station was held in the Issyk-Kul region of the Kyrgyz Republic. The project is being implemented with the support of the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RCDF).
The Fund signed a financing agreement with Green Energy LLC in the amount of 2 million 740 thousand US dollars. The new small HPP, located on the Chok-Tal River, will have an installed capacity of 3.7 MW.
It is expected that after commissioning in 2027, the station will generate about 19.2 million kWh of environmentally friendly electricity annually. This will reduce the load on the existing power system.
“This project is important not only for increasing the energy capacity of Kyrgyzstan. It will also solve the problem of water losses in the canal feeding nearby villages. Now about 50%, or 0.7 cubic meters of water, is lost due to worn-out infrastructure. The construction of the station will make it possible to direct the entire volume of water to the needs of the population,” said Artyom Novikov, Chairman of the RKFR Board.
