Russia may build small hydropower plants in Afghanistan
Russia and Afghanistan discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of hydropower. Negotiations on this topic were held by the head of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsivilev and the Minister of Water Resources and Energy of Afghanistan Abdul Latif Mansour. The information about the meeting was distributed by the Russian energy department on October 16, the Gidropost newspaper reports.
One of the key areas of possible partnership was the construction of small hydroelectric power plants – HPPs – on the territory of Afghanistan. This issue was discussed in detail during the dialogue. The parties also paid attention to the topic of training qualified personnel to work in the energy sector of the Central Asian republic.
According to the Russian Ministry, the Afghan delegation has shown considerable interest in intensifying bilateral cooperation. The representatives of Afghanistan stressed their focus on further intensification of contacts for the implementation of joint initiatives in the energy sector.
