Eurasian Development Bank Commits $30 Million to Rogun Hydropower Project
The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has joined a pool of international investors financing the construction of the Rogun hydropower plant in Tajikistan. The bank’s contribution to the multilateral agreement is set at $30 million. Nikolay Podguzov, Chairman of the EDB Management Board, announced the plans during the bank’s annual meeting and business forum held on June 25–26 in Almaty.
The financial framework for the large-scale hydropower project was established last year. A consortium was formed to complete the construction of the plant, consolidating resources from the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the Kuwait Fund. The EDB has now officially entered this pool, fixing its participation limit at $30 million.
The decision to allocate the funds to Tajikistan has been finalized. Following the formation of the consortium for the completion of the Rogun plant last year, the EDB determined its share within the group and intends to provide the $30 million to support the finalization of the project.
Participation in the Rogun project aligns with the bank’s updated strategy through 2031. The investment portfolio for this period is oriented toward accelerating the development of the energy sector, transport infrastructure, and logistics, as well as ensuring food security within member states. The bank plans to direct several hundred million dollars toward these strategic objectives over the coming years.
