Qosh-Tepa canal construction promises to speed up and improve

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Afghanistan reported that the joint meeting focused on strengthening interdepartmental cooperation to accelerate the Qosh-Tepa canal construction process. Misbahuddin Mustain, a spokesman for the ministry, said that the meeting discussed problems, solutions and the progress of work on the second stage of the construction of the canal.

Speaking about the meeting, the spokesman added:

“The meeting was chaired by Attaullah Omari, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, with the participation of heads of a number of other institutions. The purpose of this meeting is to speed up and improve the process of implementing the Kosh Tepa canal project in order to move faster to the delivery of the second stage.”

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, as well as the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the Political Administration for Administrative Affairs, the National Development Company, representatives of the Deputy for Economics at the Office of the Prime Minister of Afghanistan and other experts.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Industry and Mines of Afghanistan called the Kosh Tepa canal one of the fundamental projects for the country’s economic growth. Sakhi Ahmad Payman, Deputy head of the Chamber of Industry and Mines of Afghanistan, said:

“Kosh Tepa, one of the main economic projects of Afghanistan, opens up opportunities for water resources management and agricultural mechanization. It creates the basis for the development of the agro-industrial sector of Afghanistan, allowing us to mechanize agriculture, process and package agricultural products and increase exports.”

Abdul Jabbar Safi, head of the Kabul Industrialists’ Association, noted:

“If a similar approach is used in all economic, social and agricultural sectors, this project will bring significant benefits to Afghans in the field of water management, agriculture and economics.”

According to the statistics of the National Development Company, 81% of earthworks on the second stage of the Kosh Tepa canal have already been completed, and 60 contracting companies are working on the project around the clock, TOLOnews reports.
