Kazakhstan modernizes water infrastructure: 214 projects in progress
Kazakhstan is launching a large-scale program for the renewal and development of water infrastructure aimed at improving the efficiency of the use of valuable water resources and meeting the needs of the agricultural sector. The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is actively developing design estimates and feasibility studies for 214 projects for the construction and reconstruction of hydraulic structures.
A significant part of these efforts will be aimed at increasing water storage capacities: 21 projects are dedicated to the construction and reconstruction of reservoirs, which together will be able to accumulate 1.8 billion cubic meters of water. At the same time, 180 projects are aimed at radically modernizing the country’s irrigation network. As part of these projects, it is planned to reconstruct and implement automation systems on 243 channels, the total length of which is 4,024 kilometers. The remaining 13 projects cover other types of hydraulic structures, complementing an integrated approach to water reform.
“All projects envisage efficient use of water resources and include automation elements. Their implementation will improve the water supply of 577 thousand hectares of land. It is planned to complete the development of documents on most projects by the end of this year,” said Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Yerbolat Ibraikhanov.
