Kyrgyzstan Advances Kambar-Ata-1 Hydropower Plant Construction

The Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic has reported that construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 Hydropower Plant is proceeding according to schedule. The strategic infrastructure project, with a planned total capacity of 1,860 MW, is identified as being of key importance for the Central Asian region.
Current efforts are focused on developing the necessary infrastructure to support the construction of the main dam and station building. An 8.6 km concrete road section has been completed and is undergoing acceptance procedures. A further 4.7 km stretch of road leading to the dam site is 95% finished, with approximately 4 km of concrete laid. Tunneling work is also underway. A 126–meter transport tunnel is finished and awaiting final acceptance, while a 1,387–meter operational tunnel is reported to be 55–60% complete, with its internal road laid and structural elements being installed.
A new 110 kV overhead power line is being installed to supply electricity to the construction site. To date, 11.5 km of wire have been laid and 25 towers have been erected. A supporting 110/6 kV substation is approximately 90% complete and will provide uninterrupted power for heavy construction equipment and residential facilities.
A camp to house 100 personnel, which includes an administrative building, a dormitory, and a canteen, is now 60–70% complete. Concurrently, construction continues on a bridge over the Naryn River that will connect the banks at the plant’s location. The bridge, which will be over 180 meters long, has reached 50–60% completion, with four support piers concreted and metal spans currently being mounted.
