ADFD Finances Tajikistan’s Rogun Hydropower Plant with AED 376 Million Loan

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and the government of Tajikistan have finalized a loan agreement for AED 376 million to support the construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant. The financing is provided through the Abu Dhabi Global Water Platform, an initiative launched by the fund in the preceding month. The agreement was signed by Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the ADFD, and Fayziddin Qahhorzoda, Minister of Finance of Tajikistan, during the World Government Summit.
The funding aims to enhance Tajikistan’s energy security and promote climate-focused development, aligning with the UAE’s objective of fostering sustainable infrastructure in partner nations. This agreement underscores the ADFD’s strategic role in global development and its commitment to the goals of the Abu Dhabi Global Water Platform, which prioritizes water-related challenges as a central component of the international agenda for a more sustainable future.
The Rogun Hydropower Plant is designed to supply sustainable and affordable electricity to meet rapidly growing domestic demand. The project will also facilitate the expansion of regional electricity trade and provide Tajikistan with an additional mechanism for balancing electrical grids within the integrated energy systems of Central Asia. The financing reflects the ADFD’s development-oriented approach of funding high-impact projects that contribute to progress in communities worldwide.
